In the Beginning

When I tell people what I want to do for a living, I'm amused by their reactions. Occasionally I receive praise, but more often than not I'm met with blank stares, puzzled looks, pretended enthusiasm, and sometimes even belittling comments. I aspire to be a game developer. I guess that doesn't sound like a real job to some. And I agree with them. Game development sounds much better than a 'real' job.

I'm currently studying computer science at the University of Utah. I admit, I didn't initially plan on making games, even though I've always loved playing them. I took the class Intro to Video Games with Corrinne Lewis and it sparked my interest. After taking my first game development class with David Kennedy, I was sold on the idea.

I've continued on in the EAE (Entertainment Arts and Engineering) program and I'm in love with it.

Yes, that is how much I love it; as much as a fat kid loves cake. :D

This semester, I'm starting my capstone project. A team of other programmers, artists, designers, producers and I will work together towards an impressive end goal: To publish a game. As part of the course, we were each given the following task:

"You will be required to maintain a gamer blog throughout this semester and next. This blog is where you write down what you have been working on, games that you have played, anything else related to gaming or this class."

...

Ta-da.

Even though this blog is, in its most base form, an assignment, I'm excited to add to it and hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

Happy gaming!
